Lady Bears Fall 2-1 to Bob Jones

Cleveland, GA. |
Lady Bears Fall 2-1 to Bob Jones

The Lady Bears of Truett McConnell University went up to Greenville, SC to face off with the Lady Bruins of Bob Jones University. These two squads have been meeting up each season since the Fall of 2012 with the Lady Bears having a record of three wins, one draw, and one loss which occurred last year in Cleveland against the Bob Jones' squad. TMU was hoping to continue their winning streak while the Lady Bruins were hoping to work towards equalizing the series record.

The Lady Bruins scored first in the match in the ninth minute. The last goal that TMU had conceded before the Lady Bruins' score was September 8th, and an impressive run of 370 minutes of not allowing a goal had come to an end. The end of this incredible run did not seem to fluster TMU too much because they were able to have seven shot attempts in the half and only allowed one more shot by the Lady Bruins. Unfortunately, none of TMU's first half shots resulted in a goal and the Lady Bears went into half-time down 1-0.

TMU was able to make some adjustments and the squad found even more scoring opportunities in the second half, rifling off ten shots in the half. In the fifty-seventh minute, Megan McCall scored a goal for her squad and spoiled any hopes the Lady Bruins had in obtaining a clean sheet for the match. The Lady Bruins were able to scrounge up another goal in the sixty-sixth minute, giving them a one goal lead. TMU never gave up their pursuit of an equalizer, but they would not be able to find one and the match would end with a 2-1 score in the Lady Bruins' favor.

"In games like this one and against teams like Bob Jones…we have to be a little sharper," said Coach David McDowell. "It is a frustrating loss but this is a great group of girls and I believe they will respond positively to this setback and will grow from it." The Lady Bears' next match will be at home against conference rival Reinhardt University on Wednesday October 4th at 2 pm.
