Bears Top Faulkner 2-0

Cleveland, GA. | Bears Top Faulkner 2-0

The TMU Bears hosted the Faulkner Eagles for what looked to be a great collegiate soccer matchup. The Bears were riding a three-game win streak and Faulkner had not suffered a defeat to this point in the season.

The Bears seemed to take control of the match early and it would not take long for them to score their first goal. In the thirteenth minute, Joao Costa served a corner kick into the box and Frederico Divino placed the ball into the back of the net for the first score of the match. The Bears' second goal came just a few minutes later. In the seventeenth minute, Joao Costa scored the second goal of the match giving the Bears an early 2-0 lead. Faulkner did generate some chances in the latter part of the half but the Bears were able to take their two goal lead into halftime.

The Bears kept Faulkner at bay by limiting the Eagles to three shots, none of which were on goal. As a result, GK Evan Gaffney and the Bears' defense were able to obtain a clean sheet for the match and the Bears' win streak increased to four matches.

"We knew we would be coming into a difficult game. Faulkner were undefeated going into this game and we knew we would have to bring our best," said Coach Rob Miller. Miller went on to comment on how his team seemed to dominate play during the first twenty minutes but seemed to somewhat slip off for a bit. However, he concluded his statement by raving about his defense, saying that they were "fantastic." The Bears look to continue their winning ways at home against conference rival Reinhardt on Wednesday October 4th at 4pm.
