LAURINBURG, North Carolina | The Truett McConnell men's soccer team tied the AAC opener in early in the second half but gave up two late goals as St. Andrews defeated the Bears, 5-3, Saturday afternoon.
The Knights scored the first three goals of the match in the 19th, 24th and 38th minutes.
Joao Costa got the Bears on the board in the 39th minute to bring the game to a 3-1 deficit.
Two minutes later,
Lucas Johansson put home a corner kick from Costa to pull the Bears to within one at the break.
Right out of halftime, Costa scored a second goal off a pass from
Cyril Gadu to tie the game at three. The Knights broke back through in the 69th minute to take the lead and then again in the 73rd to put the match away.
The Bears will step out of league play for two matches down in Florida, starting with a Thursday matchup against Southeastern University at 7 p.m. in Lakeland.
