Lady Bears Fall To St. Andrews

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 On Saturday, April 9th the Lady Bears softball team dropped a pair of games to St. Andrews University by identical 2-0 scores.

St. Andrews 2   TMC 0
In the first game, Truett squandered opportunities to score in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings as they could not get that big hit. In the fourth inning, they left the bases loaded. In the fifth inning, they had two on and one out after back to back singles from Alexis Austin and Kaitlyn Hay, but could not score. In the sixth inning, the Lady Bears stranded runners at the corners with two outs.

St. Andrews made Truett pay for those missed scoring opportunities with a game winning two-run homerun in the top of the seventh inning to take game one. That homerun was really the only mistake Harlee Grogan (6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) made on the afternoon as she pitched well for Truett in the loss.

Game two was almost identical to game one in that Truett missed opportunities to score. In the first inning, Oliva Darley and Milly Martinet singled with one out but the next batter grounded into a double play to end the threat. In the second inning, the Lady Bears squandered a leadoff double by Reba Jones. St. Andrews once again made Truett for those miss opportunities. In this game, the damage came in the third inning as the Lady Knights got a RBI single and took advantage of a Truett error to score their two runs.

Taylor Nix (7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) was dealt the tough luck loss despite pitching a complete game. Truett managed to out hit the Lady Knights six to four, but came up two short where it mattered. Milly Martinet had half of those six hits as she went a perfect 3 for 3 at the dish.

The Lady Bears are now 20-20 overall on the season and 6-8 in conference play. They will be back in action Monday, April 11th as they play host to Brewton Parker for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 PM.
