Lady Bears Fall Short to the Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 On Tuesday, March 8th, the Truett-McConnell softball team hosted the Reinhardt University Lady Eagles.

Reinhardt 3        TMC 0
In game one, Reinhardt's starting pitcher, Madison Luck and Truett's starter, Harlee Grogan were locked in a pitcher's duel through the first four innings. However, the Lady Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning as they sent seven batters to the plate and pushed across three runs on four hits and one costly Lady Bears' error.

The big fifth inning for the Lady Eagles did Grogan and the Lady Bears in as the bats were never able to come alive. Milly Martinet (2-3, 2B) and Brianna Crawford (2-3) combined for four of the seven Lady Bears' hits in the loss with Jennifer Bagby, Bailey Sanders, and Reagan Jackson each collecting hits as well. Grogan (7 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) pitched well despite picking up the loss as she fanned six hitters in a complete game effort.

Reinhardt 3        TMC 0
The Lady Eagles blanked the Lady Bears by the same 3-0 score in game two as the theme was pretty much the same with great pitching from Reinhardt and the Lady Bears never finding a way to get going offensively. Reinhardt did all their scoring in consecutive innings. The Lady Eagles got two runs on two hits and one Lady Bears' error in the second inning before scoring their final run in the third inning.

Taylor Nix (2.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) started the game in the circle for Truett but was forced to exit early after giving up three runs in just 2.1 innings of work as she took the loss. Harlee Grogan (4.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K) came in for relief of Nix and pitched well by not allowing a single run through the final 4.2 innings. The offense only managed four hits on the afternoon as Kaitlynn Hay (2-3) had half of those with Sara Stites (1-3, 2B) and Reba Jones (1-3) combining for the other two Lady Bears' hits.

The Lady Bears are now 10-12 overall on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Lady Bears will look to get back on track after a week off when they travel to Athens, Tennessee to take on the Tennessee Wesleyan University Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 15th.
