CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell men's basketball team battled back from a huge deficit to just five points against No. 11 Union Wednesday night, but the Bulldogs pulled through to escape the Bear Cave with an 83-66 win over the Bears.

TMU fell behind in the first half when Union shot 62 percent from the field and nearly 61 percent from the three-point line in the first 20 minutes. The halftime lead for Union was 19 points at 51-32, but the Bulldogs led by as many as 21 in the opening frame.

The Bears battled back in the half, scoring 31 of the first 48 points in the second half to cut the deficit to a 68-63 margin, but Union was able to pull away, holding Truett McConnell scoreless over the final five minutes of the game.

David Campbell Jr. led the Bears with a team-high 19 points.

The Bears will look to snap their losing streak on the road at Allen University on Saturday with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
