THOMASVILLE, Ga. | The Truett McConnell women's basketball team led for almost three entire quarters, but big runs by Thomas led to an 11-point win, 76-65, for the Night Hawks Thursday night.
The Bears led 23-21 after one quarter of play behind the three-point shooting of
Anna Murr, making both threes she took in the first 10 minutes of play. TMU extended its lead to eight late in the half as
Ashleigh Stanley hit a reverse layup to put the Bears up, 35-27, at the time.
After leading by four at the break, Truett McConnell held the lead until 24 seconds left in the third and then fell behind in the fourth as Thomas went on a 14-2 run to open the final frame. The Bears were able to cut the lead to as nine after trailing by as many as 14, but it wasn't enough as the Nighthawks hit free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Ariana Sanders led three Bears in double figures with a game-high 20 points. Murr finished with 14 points on 5-11 shooting and 4-8 from behind the arc, and
Janae' Simpson added 10 points and four rebounds.
The Bears will next take on Toccoa Falls on the road on Tuesday, November 1. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
