Lady Bears Defeat #21 Milligan

Box Score The Lady Bears travelled to Milligan College to take on the Buffaloes earlier this afternoon in an AAC match-up. A good three point shot and fast break from freshman Ashley Roby started the Bears off in the right direction and led the Buffaloes for the rest of the quarter.  Both teams only allowed 6 points each in the second quarter, sending them into halftime with the Bears leading by a score of 21-18.

The Bears picked up the momentum from the first half and went on an 11 point run to lead the Buffaloes by a score of 43-35 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Buffaloes fight back but the Lady Bears defense proved to be strong enough to come away with the win. The final score on the night saw the Lady Bears victorious by a score of 62-50.

"What a tremendous effort by our team today," said Head Coach Chad Hibdon. "Their continued commitment to working hard and being prepared showed tonight. Battling some close games late has been a huge difference in our experience and confidence in getting the win today. We had so many girls make big time plays on both ends, but none bigger than the effort and charge taken by Heather Shore at the end of the game. Rhande Haskett played her best half of the year in the second half in scoring and rebounding the ball extremely well. Also, Monica Hammond and Ashley Roby were so steady throughout the entire game. Great win for our team and we will use this as another opportunity to continue our progress and improvement." 

Rhande Haskett had an impressive game leading the Lady Bears offensively and defensively on the night with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley Roby (16 points, 9 rebounds) and Monica Hammond (8 points, 10 rebounds) had significant contributions to the Lady Bears overall victory.

The Lady Bears defeated the Buffaloes who are #1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and #21 in the nation in NAIA. With this win, the Bears improve to 11-11 overall on the season and 4-9 in conference play. The Lady Bears will return home this Wednesday, February 3rd, to take on the Cavaliers from Montreat College in an AAC match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
