Lady Bears Blank the Barons on the Road

Box Score The Truett-McConnell Lady Bears Soccer team grabbed their second straight victory of the season this past Wednesday against the Barons from Brewton Parker College. The game was the Bears' first road game of the year, and after an impressive 3-0 victory their overall season record increased to 2-1 on the season.

The two teams battled back and forth for the majority of the game, but the Bears were able to keep pressure on the Barons most of the night, finally breaking the game open with three goals during the second half. Sophomore Chelsea Norton from Grayson, Georgia along with freshman Abbey Thompson from Zebulan, Georgia helped break the game open with pivotal goals that turned the game in favor of the Bears. Thompson, a recent graduate of Pike County High School, had two goals on the night and was a strong offensive presence on the field for the Bears.

"I was very impressed with the patience the girls showed today against Brewton-Parker," said Head Coach David McDowell immediately following the game.  "We had a lot of possession and territory in the first half without getting on the scoreboard, but the girls kept showing great determination and character in sticking to the game plan. When we finally got the opening goal through Chelsea Norton, it really deflated BPC as they had been defending very well up until that point. It then allowed us to play with a bit more freedom as more space started opening up and we were able to get two more late goals through freshman, Abbey Thompson. It's always great to get a win on the road, and the way our girls went about it really impressed me. Every day we are improving, and this game was another step in that journey."

The Bears will turn their attention now towards preparing for USC Beaufort, another tough opponent they will face on the road. The two teams will face off next Saturday, September 5th  at 1:00 pm on the campus of USC Beaufort. The Bears will try to grab their second straight road win and improve their record to 3-1 on the season.
