Bears Win Conference Road Series against Knights
Box Score The Truett-McConnell College Bears Baseball team defeated the Knights of St. Andrews University over the weekend. The Bears fell short 4-1 in the series opener, but were able to bounce back with a solidified offense to claim wins of 7-4 and 8-0.
Truett-McConnell plated the first run of the game in the series opener, but surrendered three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and another in the sixth while Knights pitcher, Chris Fee, limited the Bears to one run over the full seven frames. Bears starting pitcher, Chris Carden, threw six innings with seven strikeouts in his outing. Carden batted in the Bears' lone run in the top of the third inning to plate Andrew Fogarty. Fogarty, Trent Little, and Michael Long accounted for the three hits off Knights pitcher Chris Fee.
In the second game, Truett-McConnell belted nine hits on their way to a 7-4 victory. The Bear bats ignited with four runs in the first inning and would add on three more while starting pitcher Jared Oliver held the Knights to just three runs over 5.1 innings.
Oliver exited the game with eight strikeouts before handing it over to Chris Stevens who recorded the final five outs resulting in the Bears' win. Offensively, Truett had multiple-hit performances from Chris Carden (2-for-4, R, SB), Peyton Fore (2-for-4, R), and McClane Ramey (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI, SB). Trent Little, Walker Caves, and Chris Stevens also had hits.
In the final game, Luke Henderson threw a complete-game shutout as the Bears' offense put eight runs on the board for an 8-0 victory. Henderson, a sophomore left-handed pitcher, threw a nine-inning gem as he allowed just six hits with ten strikeouts without issuing a walk. The southpaw is now 6-5 on the mound with five complete games and three shutouts this season.
Chris Carden, Tate Gaines, and Chris Stevens were outstanding offensively for the Bears. Carden went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and double. Gaines went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBI, and Stevens belted a pair of doubles in five at-bats with a run batted in. Collectively, the Bears recorded 12 hits in the game.
The Bears, who have won five of their last eight games, will take on NCAA Division II Emmanuel College on Tuesday in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
