Baseball Bears Split on Monday; Take on Taylor University Thursday
Box Score The Truett-McConnell College Baseball team will travel to Emerson, Georgia on Thursday afternoon to take on Taylor University for a single game matchup at LakePoint Baseball Complex. Earlier in the week, the Bears defeated NCAA Division II opponent Southern Wesleyan by a score of 12-6 before losing a 6-1 decision at sixth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College.
In Monday's 12-6 victory over Southern Wesleyan, the Truett-McConnell pitching staff allowed just one earned run over nine innings while their offense tallied 12 runs on eight hits. Trent Little, Chris Carden, and Michael Long each drove in a pair of runs in the game. Freshman Walker Caves belted his first homerun of the season with a towering shot over the left field wall.
Later in the day, the Bears traveled to Lawrenceville, Georgia to take on the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies. Truett-McConnell had won the previous matchup with the Grizzlies earlier in the season, but Georgia Gwinnett plated six runs in the second meeting to secure a 6-1 victory. Starting pitcher Jared Oliver pitched well, striking out 11 Grizzly batters during the first five innings. He currently leads the Appalachian Athletic Conference in strikeouts per game.
The Bears are 9-6 overall heading into Thursday afternoon's game with NAIA foe Taylor University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
