Baseball Tops Tigers 3-2 on the Road

The Truett-McConnell College Baseball program defeated the Hiwassee College Tigers 3-2 in Madisonville, Tennessee on Tuesday. The win puts the Bears at
12-11 overall with the majority of games remaining on the 2015 schedule.
Down 2-1 in the fifth inning, the Bears were able to push a run across to tie the game when Michael Long scored on a single off the bat of Chris Carden. With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, freshman pitcher Blake Puckett escaped a no-out, bases loaded jam to hold down the Tigers. Puckett struck out the Tigers' three-hole hitter swinging before fielding his position en route to an inning-ending 1-2-3 double play.
With the score locked at 2-2, freshman Austin Thomas drew a lead-off walk. Peyton Fore's sacrifice bunt advanced Thomas to second. Carden followed with a single to advance Thomas to third, and Chris Stevens' safety squeeze allowed Thomas to score the go-ahead run.
Puckett walked the first batter in the bottom half of the tenth inning, but settled down to retire the next three batters to earn his first win of the season. Cody Gable took the no-decision after tossing five innings and allowing just two runs on five hits. The senior left-hander struck out four while walking one. Pitchers McClane Ramey and Justin Moody combined for three shut-down innings to bridge the gap between Gable and Puckett.
Offensively, the Bears knocked out nine hits in the game led by junior Chris Stevens (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and sophomore Chris Carden (3-for-5, 1 RBI). Sean Cheshire, Tate Gaines, and Michael Long each had singles to round out the offense.
