Bears’ Season Ends Too Soon on the Hardwood

Box Score The Truett-McConnell Men's Basketball team entered Thursday's match-up against Tennessee Wesleyan as the No. 3 seed in the AAC Tournament in Kingsport, Tennessee. The team had high hopes of contending for the overall championship, but those dreams were dashed as the Bears lost a heartbreaker by the final score of 67-63.

The Bears were able to win both regular season match-ups between the two teams, winning both home and away against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs. Earlier in the week Head Coach Jon Yeh expressed his thoughts on the game, as his team attempted to try and top the Bulldogs for the third time in a row during the course of the season. "Obviously, we've played Tennessee Wesleyan pretty well this year already, but beating a team three times in a year is always difficult," said Yeh.

The Bears played hard throughout the game, taking a slim lead into the locker room at the half. However, despite their 30-26 lead at the break, the Bulldogs just refused to go away and ultimately broke away with the upset 67-63 victory.

Andretti Lloyd led the Bears in scoring with 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the floor during his 28 minutes of court time. J'Quayveon Williams led the Bears in minutes with 32 for the game, but he managed just 10 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor against a tough Bulldog defense. JR Hurst had 11 points on the night during his 27 minutes of playing time, while Rudy Deaza added 10 points of his own during his 31 minutes of court time.

As a team, the Bears struggled to find their offensive rhythm, shooting just 34.3% from the floor as a team and 32.0% from beyond the arch.

The Bears finished the season with a 17-12 mark on the year, going 12-7 in conference play.
