Bears Win Two on Friday Versus Fisher
Box Score The Truett-McConnell Bears took both games of a Friday afternoon doubleheader with scores of 7-1 and 4-0 over visiting Fisher College (Mass.). Fisher, currently receiving top 25 votes, falls to 0-2 overall while the Bears improve to 8-5.
TMC knocked out nine hits in game one's 7-1 victory. Junior Chris Stevens led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, including a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Other top offensive performers for the Bears were Sean Cheshire (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), Casey Guilliams (1-for-3, 1 RBI), Michael Long (1-for-2, 3B, 1 R, 1 RBI), Trent Little (1-for-3, 2B, 1 R, 1 BB), and Chris Carden (1-for-4, 1 R).
Jared Oliver (2-2) earned the win after not allowing a hit over the first six innings. He went 6.1 innings with five strikeouts, a pair of walks, one earned run, and two hits allowed. Chris Stevens recorded the final two outs to secure the win.
In game two, Chris Carden and Luke Henderson combined on the mound to shut out the visiting Falcons en route to a 4-0 victory for the Bears. TMC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning and would later add a run in the sixth.
With the bases loaded in the first inning, Chris Stevens was hit by a pitch to put the Bears on the board early. Sophomore Tate Gaines hit a two-run single to left-center to put the score at 3-0 and give the Bears all they would need. Later in the game, the Bears would score a fourth run on an Andrew Fogarty RBI double to left-center.
The Bears will take on NCAA Division II opponent Southern Wesleyan University early next week before welcoming Bryan College to Mize Field on the weekend for a conference match-up. Bryan is currently receiving top 25 votes and boasts an impressive 12-2 overall record.
