Men’s Basketball Topples Toccoa Falls
Box Score The Men's Basketball team travelled to Toccoa Falls, Georgia earlier this week to take on the Eagles from Toccoa Falls College.
The Bears took little time getting an early lead and led the Eagles going into halftime by 14 points. The Eagles came out in the second half ready to fight back, but the Bears held strong and never relinquished control of the scoreboard. The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the game, but the Bears proved to be too much for the Eagles as the contest concluded with Truett-McConnell on top by a score of 87-69.
Andretti Loyd led the Bears offensively on the night with 25 points off the bench. J'Quayveon Williams, who is currently ranked 2nd in the NAIA for total rebounds per game, poured in 17 points and 9 rebounds for the Bears. Brandon Cerezola (13 points) and Darius McNear (10 rebounds) also had successful offensive contributions for the Bears.
"It was a good team win," said Truett-McConnell Head Coach Jon Yeh. "We were able to grab an early lead and play from in front with a double digit lead the entire game. Maintaining and growing that lead is something we've struggled to do so far this year. Andretti was really locked in from the first time he touched the ball. When he is focused, he is such an excellent scorer both from the perimeter and attacking the basket. Brandon Cerezola gave us some real quality minutes in the first half, knocking down some shots, grabbing long rebounds, and giving us some gritty effort."
With the win, the Bears move to 3-7 overall on the season. The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, December 12th as they travel to Laurinburg, NC to take on the Cavaliers of Montreat College. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4:00 pm.
