The Truett-McConnel Lady Bears Soccer team took the field Wednesday afternoon in a must-win situation against the Buffaloes from Milligan College. The two teams were meeting for a pivotal play-in game for the AAC Championship Tournament, with the winner claiming a post in the tournament and the loser facing the harsh realities of a long off season.

It was apparent from the game's opening whistle that the Lady Bears had no intention of having their season come to a close in front of the home crowd. Despite wet and slick conditions due to heavy rains in the Cleveland, Georgia area, the Lady Bears asserted their offensive presence early in the game with relentless shots on goal against the Buffaloes. Then it happened – midway through the first period the Lady Bears finally broke through the Buffaloes' defense and scored the game's first goal.

Sophomore Katey Griggs from Fort Valley, Georgia lined a goal past the Buffaloes goalie off an assist from freshman Quiara Gebauer. Despite grabbing the 1-0 lead, the Lady Bears never let up on the offensive side of the field as they continued to take shots on goal. Only minutes later, senior Brooke Reed from Oakwood, Georgia laced another goal into the back of the Buffaloes net giving the Lady Bears a commanding 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

As the second half began, the Lady Bears continued their offensive pressure, combined with relentless defense, to confine the Buffaloes to the middle of the field. The Buffaloes were never able to mount much of an offensive charge and thus the game ended with the Lady Bears victorious by a final score of 2-0. With the win, the Lady Bears assured themselves another game and an invitation to the AAC Championship Tournament.

"This was the best we've played all season," said Truett-McConnell Head Coach David McDowell as the team stormed the field. "We played with a lot of energy and passion, and the girls looked really good out there today. We're going to try and keep this going as we look towards our next opponent."

The Lady Bears will move on to play Columbia College this Saturday, November 7th at 12:00 pm in the AAC Champion Tournament Quarterfinals. The game will take place on the campus of Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina.
