Lady Bears Fall in Home-Opener

Box Score The Lady Bears Basketball team took to the court on Tuesday night against Bob Jones University in their 2015-16 home-opener. The Bears played in front of a rowdy crowd that fell upon the Bear Cave in hopes of seeing the home team come away with a win and a perfect start to their new season. Despite a strong start and a 22-17 halftime lead, the Lady Bears were not able to hang on late in the fourth quarter, ultimately coming up short by a final score of 62-52.

Freshman Ashley Roby and senior Rhande Haskett led the Lady Bears in both minutes played and points scored on the night. Roby led the Lady Bears with 20 points on 7-15 shooting from the floor and 6-11 from beyond the three-point arc during her team-leading 35 minutes of court time. Haskett followed with 14 points on 6-17 shooting from the floor during her 29 minutes of playing time on the night. The Lady Bears combined for 20 points in the paint on the evening and 5 total second chance points.

Despite a nice contribution from the bench during their season opener, the Lady Bears struggled to find their rhythm offensively against a stifling Bob Jones defense. The Lady Bears' bench was outscored 26-7 on the night. In addition, turnovers proved costly as the Lady Bears surrendered 17 points off of turnovers on the night.

The Lady Bears will travel to McKenzie, Tennessee this Friday, November 6th to take on Bethel University. The game is scheduled to tip at 6:00 PM CST.
