Lady Bears Fall to Eagles in AAC Finals
Box Score The Truett-McConnell Lady Bears Soccer team traveled to Waleska, Georgia Friday evening to take on the Eagles from Reinhardt University in the AAC Championship Finals. It was the first time in school history that the Lady Bears appeared in the conference finals since joining the AAC.
Â
The Lady Bears played hard in front of several faithful fans who made the trip to cheer them on as they faced off against the Eagles, but they struggled to find their rhythm during the course of the game. The Bears fell behind 2-0 in the opening minutes and struggled to catch up for the remainder of the game.
Â
Trailing at halftime 3-0, the Lady Bears were unable to mount an offensive charge during the second half, as the Eagles' defense dictated the pace of the game and their offense continued to add to their lead. The Eagles were able to build an insurmountable 6-0 lead until sophomore Katey Griggs was able to dent the scoreboard in the game's final seconds. Griggs, a native of Fort Valley, Georgia and a recent graduate of First Day Presbyterian, was able to sneak a goal past the Eagles' defense off a deflection and score the Lady Bears' first and only goal on the day. Â
Despite the 6-1 loss, the Lady Bears left the field knowing they had just completed one of the most successful seasons in Lady Bears Soccer history. The Lady Bears finished the season with an overall record of 12-9-1, going 4-5-1 within the AAC. They had a 4-5-0 mark in front of the home crowd, while going 8-3-1 on the road. Until Friday's game, no Lady Bears team had ever gotten past the conference semi-finals during the AAC Championship Tournament.
Â
The Lady Bears will certainly be a force to be reckoned with on the field during the 2016 season.
