Lady Bears Basketball Season Preview

Cleveland, GA - Truett-McConnell Women's Basketball program will enter the 2015 season with a fresh face at the helm and high hopes to make waves within the ranks of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. It was announced late last spring that decorated coach Chad Hibdon would be leaving the high school ranks in Tennessee to try is hand at Truett-McConnell.

Hibdon was named USA TODAY national girls basketball coach of the year in 2014 and led the Lady Blaze to Class AAA state championships in 2014 and 2015; the team was named national champions by USA TODAY, MaxPreps and ESPN in 2014. He is a three time District Coach of the Year recipient, a two time Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee Coach of the Year recipient, and an A.F. Bridges TSSAA Coach of the Year recipient. Coach Hibdon has also been involved with college recruiting as fifteen of his players over the last ten years have signed college scholarships.

With new coach Chad Hibdon at the helm, the Lady Bears also welcome back a strong core of returning players, including AAC Second-Team Player Rhande Haskett and AAC All-Freshman Team Player Anna Murr.. Also returning for the Lady Bears are Helen Simoes and Briana Jones,  both of which are highly respected players returning to the fold for the Lady Bears after suffering season-ending injuries late last season.

In addition to the strong core group of returning players, the Lady Bears will look to a talented group of freshmen to serve as immediate impact players. The Lady Bears will welcome nine newcomers, all of whom could help make an immediate impact on the court for the Lady Bears.  Hibdon will look to use his core group of returners, as well as the new crop of freshmen, to build Truett-McConnell into a serious championship contender under his tutelage.

The Lady Bears will have tough head-to-head matches this upcoming season. Perhaps one of the most highly anticipated games of the season will come against conference rival and 2014 AAC conference champions, Tennessee Wesleyan College. The Lady Bears will welcome Tennessee Wesleyan to the campus of Truett-McConnell on November 21, 2015 at 2 pm.

Coach Chad Hibdon offered the following insight into the upcoming 2015 season, "I am excited about the opportunity to be on a Christ-centered campus and to create a championship culture in our women's basketball program."
