Lady Bears Soccer Wraps up Regular Season on a Winning Note

Box Score

The Lady Bears Soccer team traveled to Columbia, South Carolina on Friday evening to take on Columbia International University for their last regular season match-up of the 2015 season.

The Lady Bears got off to a kick start, jumping out to an early lead from a goal by senior left midfielder Jo Cook. Off an assist from sophomore Elise Lombard from Lawrenceville, Georgia, Cook was able to break through Columbia's defense and give the Bears an early 1-0 lead. The remainder of the opening period would be dominated by outstanding defensive play on both sides of the ball, with the Lady Bears going into to the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Bears added to their lead early in the second half when sophomore midfielder Chelsea Norton from Grayson, Georgia scored giving the Lady Bears a commanding 2-0 lead. Despite allowing Columbia to tack on a late goal, the Lady Bears held on for an impressive 2-1 victory to cap off their regular season schedule for the 2015 season.

"This was a good way to end our regular season," said Truett-McConnell Head Coach David McDowell. "We had a few girls missing due to injuries, so we were able to play a number of different girls to help get them some more experience. We had to work hard against a determined CIU team and the girls showed their character in getting the job done. This is a great group of girls that have stuck together all season. We are excited about the postseason coming up next week."

The win allowed the Lady Bears to finish the regular season with 9-8-1 overall record and a conference mark of 4-5-1. The Lady Bears were 6-3-1 on the road, while finishing 3-5-0 in front of the home crowd.

The Lady Bears will take to the field on Tuesday, November 3rd against Milligan College in a pivotal AAC Conference Championship play-in game. The winner will move on to the AAC Conference tournament later in the week. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm. The Lady Bears are 1-0 against Milligan this season, scoring a 2-1 road win against the Buffaloes back in late September.
