Lady Bears Soccer Shuts Out Bob Jones University
Box Score The Truett-McConnell Lady Bears Soccer team traveled to Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday afternoon to take on the Bruins from Bob Jones University. The Lady Bears, who were searching for their first win since late September, went into the game determined to settle for nothing less than a victory.
The Lady Bears wasted little time denting the scoreboard, when senior Brooke Reed from Oakwood, Georgia pierced the net with an early first period goal to help propel the Bears out to a quick 1-0 lead. Within minutes, the Bears added to their lead when freshman Abbey Thompson from Zebulon, Georgia broke free behind the Bruins' defenders off an assist from sophomore Elise Lombard for a quick score, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead. The Bears held their lead for the rest of the period and went into the halftime break leading by a score of 2-0.
The Bears' defense stymied the Bruins' offense all evening, never giving the Bruins a clean shot on goal as the two teams battled defensively for the remainder of the contest. Despite not being able to pad to their lead in the second period, the Bears' strong defensive play never allowed the Bruins to crack the scoreboard. When the final buzzer sounded, the Bears left the field victorious by a score of 2-0.
The much-needed win helped push the Lady Bears' overall record to 7-8-1 on the season and helped improve their road record to 4-3-1.
The Lady Bears will travel to Dayton, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 27th for a pivotal AAC match-up with rival Bryan College. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm.
