Volleyball Splits Weekend Series

Box Score 2 This weekend, the Truett McConnell Bears traveled to Montreat and Milligan College for two conference matches.
Friday night, the Bears took on the Milligan Cavaliers in a four set thriller. Losing the first set 23-25, the Lady Bears came out in the second set ready to battle. With great offense distribution from Alex Brake and Rebekah Reems, the Lady Bears won the second set 25-15. Tough service runs from both Alex Brake and Hannah Simpson allowed for the Bears to take the third set 25-21. Intense and balanced defense by the Bears secured the victory, and Truett McConnell won the fourth set 29-27. This big win against the Montreat Cavaliers tied the Bears' 2014 record of wins in a season.
Offensively, Kendal Hardy was on fire and led the team with 17 kills. Along with Hardy tying the school record with her offensive performance, Katie Russell followed with 12 kills, and Tarryn long had 9 kills.
Jocelyn Mahayag, who currently ranks second in the nation in digs per set, led the team defensively with 33 digs. Rebekah Reems, also was a huge presence defensively for the Bears with 13 digs of her own.
Alex Brake and Rebekah Reems combined with 52 assists, helping to lead a well-balanced offense.
After a great team performance on Friday night, the Truett McConnell Bears fought as a team on Saturday afternoon to take on the Milligan Buffaloes in a tough five set loss. After losing the first two sets, the Lady Bears took the third and fourth sets with no hesitation. In the third set, Katie Russell and Hannah Simpson served up two six-point runs behind the service line, which set the Bears up for the third set win 25-21. Storming on the court with confidence in the fourth set, the Lady Bears forced great offensive runs on the Buffalos, which led to the 25-22 fourth set win. After battling back in the third and fourth sets, the Lady Bears lost the momentum and lost the fifth set 6-15.
With another well-balanced offensive performance, Katie Russell led the team with 11 kills, both Kendall Hardy and Zykeria Allen tied with 10 kills, and Hannah Simpson followed with 9 kills.
Again, Jocelyn Mahayag led the defense with 25 digs, and Georgia Martin followed with 12 digs herself.
The Truett McConnell Bears play in their last home match of the season against Point University on Tuesday, October 27th at 6:30 pm.
