Men’s Soccer Topples Bob Jones University
Box Score The Truett-McConnell Men's Soccer team traveled to Greenville, South Carolina on Thursday night in an attempt to get back to their winning ways after suffering a tough loss earlier in the week to AAC rival Tennessee Wesleyan.
The Bears jumped out early against the Bruins from Bob Jones University, as Josiah Saydee, a junior from Clarkson, Georgia scored his fifth goal of the season to help propel the Bears to an early lead. Senior Penzi Kakoma helped pad the Bears' lead as he scored a goal of his own, putting the Bears ahead by two early in the game.
Not to be denied, the Bruins fought back and scored a goal of their own in the 27th minute of play. The two teams continued to battle until the end of the first half, with the Bears leading at the break by a score of 2-1.
Senior Josh Bargary helped the Bears extend their lead at the start of second half, as he laced a goal of his own off a penalty shot to give the Bears a 3-1 lead. With offensive momentum on their side, the Bears continued to pad their lead when central defender, Matthew Robertshaw, grabbed an impressive goal of his own, moving the Bears even further out front with a 4-1 lead.
After a late Bruins goal, freshman Tyrik Francis from Covington, Georgia added another goal for the Bears, pushing their lead up to 5-2. Despite another late goal by the Bruins, the Bears' lead proved to be insurmountable and they held on for a much needed 5-3 victory.
"We played well tonight," said Truett-McConnell Head Coach Rob Miller. "We just exploded offensively."
With the win, the Bears improve to 8-4-3 overall on the season. The win also helps push the Bears' road record to 4-3-1.
The Bears have two remaining regular season games prior to a potential playoff berth, so the week ahead will have major implications for their potential postseason seeding. The Bears will travel to Dayton, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 27th to take on Bryan College. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
