Box Score

The Lady Bears traveled to Bluefield, Virginia on Saturday to take on the Bluefield College Rams in an important NAIA conference matchup. The Bears struggled all afternoon from the floor and fell behind quickly. The team only shot 20% from the floor in the first half, only managing to find the basket on 6 of 30 shots. As a result of the poor shooting percentage, the Bears went into the locker room at the half trailing the Rams 21-28.  Helen Simoes led the Bears in scoring at the half with 12 points and 4 steals.

After an array of half time adjustments, the Bears attempted to steal the momentum from the Rams early in the second half. Despite their attempts, their first half shooting struggles continued to plague them for the rest of the game. The Bears only managed to shoot 21.74% in the second half on 5 for 23 shots from the floor. They also struggled from behind the 3-point arch, going 4 for 19 on the game. Helen Simoes led the Lady Bears in scoring for the game with 14 points and 5 steals in 27 minutes. Anna Murr also poured in 11 points during her 22 minutes of playing time. Despite the efforts from Simoes and Murr, the Lady Bears dropped the contest to Bluefield by a final score of 61-44.

"We had too many unforced errors and we got completely outplayed in the second half," said Head Coach Matt Sanders. "We will go back to work and try to get ready for our next conference game at home against St. Andrews." The Lady Bears will play this Wednesday, January 7th, at home against St. Andrews University. The game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 pm.
