The Truett-McConnell Bears took to the hardwood Saturday night on the road against conference foe Montreat College. The game went south fast for the Cavaliers, as the Bears wasted no time streaking out to the early lead and never looking back. The Bears took a 31-25 lead into the locker room at the half, only to return in the second half to have one of their highest shooting percentage halves of the season.

The Bears shot 71.43% from the field in the second half on 20 of 28 shots from inside the perimeter. At the same time, they went 5 for 9 for 55.56% from the three point arch en route to outscoring the Cavaliers 60-52 in the half. The Bears were led by senior guard Rudy Deaza, who led all scorers with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assist, and a steal on the night during his 37 minutes of court time. J'Quayveon Williams also had a huge night for the Bears with 14 rebounds and 20 points during his 26 minutes of playing time. Xavier Holland (11 points) and Daniel Beauseiour (10 points) also got in on the action by scoring double digit point figures on the night helping the Bears to their 91-77 victory.

"Montreat is a team that can really score and shoot the 3. To keep them scoreless from 3 in the first half and for them to shoot only 22% for the game (they are averaging 39% in conference play) was a huge plus for us defensively," said Head Coach Jon Yeh. "Rudy had another breakout game and an outstanding week overall. He was aggressive off the dribble and hit some of his trademark 3s. Quay continues to be a giant in the paint for us. He put up his numbers in only 26 minutes of work due to some foul trouble."
The win pushed the Bears' road record to 6-5 overall and moves their season record to 13-8. They set 8-3 in the conference, and they'll try to add to their two game winning streak this Wednesday, January 28th, as they welcome divisional opponent Tennessee Wesleyan into the Bear Cave. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 and seats promise to be hard to come by, so arrive early and help cheer on the Bears as they continue their winning ways.
