Lady Bears Dominate Toccoa Falls

Box Score       Toccoa Falls proved no match for the mighty Lady Bears on Monday night, as the Eagles visited the Bear Cave for a rude awakening from the early tip. The Eagles hoped to soar into Cleveland and grab the win as they darted out to an early lead, only to be swatted down by an aggressive Bears defense that went on to power past the Eagles en route to a 71-41 victory. The win was the Bears' fourth on the season and their second against the Eagles this season.

Freshman guard Anna Murr led all scorers with 21 points and 2 steals in her 30 minutes of court time. Meanwhile, juniors Monica Hammond and Rhande Haskett were not to be overshadowed as they both played crucial roles in helping secure the impressive victory for the Lady Bears. Hammond scored a career high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds during her team-leading 32 minutes of court time.  Haskett came away with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and a blocked shot during her 25 minutes of playing time. The Bears shot 38.3% from the field on 23 of 60 shots and went 10 for 26 beyond the three point arch for 38.5%. The Bears had 5 steals and 3 blocked shots on the night as they let their defense do the talking on the court. "I'm very excited about how the ladies played tonight," said Head Coach Matt Sanders as he left the court immediately following the game. "The ladies were excellent on the defensive side of the ball in second half, and our energy was outstanding tonight."

The Bears will turn their attention now towards Columbia College as the Koalas will travel to Cleveland to face the Bears in the Bear Cave this Wednesday, January 21st. This will mark the second time this season the two teams have faced one another, with the Koalas coming away victorious in the first matchup that saw the teams battle it out in 2OT. The Koalas squeaked by with a hard fought 75-74 victory. The Bears will look to win back-to-back regular season games for the first time this season and improve upon their 3-6 home record at the expense of the Koalas, so be sure to come out and show your support for the Lady Bears as they take the court. The game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 PM.
