Bears Making Noise on the Hardwood

Box Score

It became obvious on Saturday afternoon that 1st year coach Jon Yeh has his band of hardwood warriors believing they can go toe to toe against anyone in the AAC conference. The Truett-McConnell Men's Basketball team entered Saturday's matchup against conference rival Reinhardt University as the hottest team by far in the AAC Conference, having won four straight conference games. It would not take long for them to push their streak to five straight.

The Bears overcame a sluggish start in the opening minutes to eventually gain the lead and power their way to their fifth straight conference win by a final score of 86-68. "I thought we overcame a sluggish start and played really hard the last 35 minutes of the game," said Head Coach Jon Yeh as he left the court Saturday afternoon. The Bears shot 41.67% from the floor in the first half on 15 of 36 shots from inside the perimeter. As a result, they were able to take a 33 to 25 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Bears returned to the court the second half and wasted no time pouncing on the Eagles while being led by sophomore sensation J'Quayveon Williams. Williams scored yet another double-double for the season, pouring in 17 points and 15 rebounds. Not to be outdone, freshman Daniel Beausejour also recorded a double-double of his own. Beausejour scored 11 points and crashed the boards for 11 rebounds during his 11 minutes of playing time on the court. The Bears shot 44.83% on 13 of 29 from the floor in second half and outscored the Eagles 53-43 in route to their impressive 86-68 victory. "Daniel Beausejour gave us a huge lift tonight and brought a lot of energy to the court," said Yeh. "We handled the ball a lot better in the second half, and our rebounding was definitely an advantage."

The win moves the Bears' home record for the year to 6-3 and their overall record to 10-7. Within the conference, the Bears are 6-2 and just one game out of first place. The Bears will travel to Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee on Wednesday to take on the Bryan College Lions. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 pm.
