Lady Bears Fall to Reinhardt

Box Score

The Lady Bears took to the court Saturday afternoon for a crucial conference matchup against rival, Reinhardt University. The Bears jumped out to the early lead, but they were unable to pull away as the Eagles battled back taking a 33-27 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Bears shot 38.46% from the field on 10 for 26 shots in the first half, but they struggled from beyond the three-point arch going 1 for 8.

After a few halftime adjustments, the Bears returned to the court and were led by Monica Hammond, Rhande Haskett, and Heather Shore. Hammond led the Lady Bears in scoring 16 points in her 33 minutes of playing time. Haskett got 14 points and 12 rebounds in her time on the court, while Shore added 7 points and 3 rebounds in her 24 minutes of playing time."The kids really played hard," said Head Coach Matt Sanders immediately following the game. "Monica, Rhande, and Heather really brought their A game to the court, and I was extremely pleased with what I saw from each of them."

Despite the strong showings from several of the Lady Bears, the Eagles proved too much and eventually took the lead with around 12 minutes left, slowly pulling away for a 66-44 victory. Costly turnovers have plagued the Lady Bears in several match ups this year, and Saturday was no exception. "Give them credit," said Sanders. "They hit some big shots down the stretch, and we turned it over in critical spots".

The Bears will return to the hardwood Wednesday, January 14th at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee for another crucial conference matchup. The game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 pm.
