Women’s Soccer Victorious over 2013 AAC Champs

CLEVELAND, GA (TMSports) - On Wednesday, September 24th, the Truett-McConnell Women's soccer team visited the defending Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) conference champions, the Reinhardt Eagles. This match-up proved to be an astounding upset as the Lady Bears would prove victorious in their 1-0 win.

At the start of the match, the Lady Bears immediately took control of the field with an aggressive offensive attack. In the 11th minute of play, senior Meagan Taylor was able to out-leap the Eagles' defense to receive a pinpoint cross by sophomore Paige Williams, resulting in a goal for the Lady Bears from Taylor's superbly-weighted header. As the half continued, the Bears continued to put pressure on the Eagles. Taylor almost doubled the Bears' lead in the 35th minute of play, but the ball traveled just wide of the goal.

In the second half, the Eagles came out flying and began to challenge the Lady Bears' defense. However, the freshman goalkeeper, Anna Scogin, proved to be too much for the Eagles' offense as she pulled off two big saves for the Bears in the first eight minutes of the half. After soaking up this early pressure, the Lady Bears regained the momentum and took control of the match once again, creating a few more opportunities and maintaining possession. The Bears would finish the match victorious as Taylor's lone goal from the first half proved to be the difference-maker.

With this win, the Lady Bears improve to 2-0 in AAC play. Coach McDowell said of the victory, "We knew this would be a big test for us as Reinhardt is the defending AAC champion, and we have a lot of respect for their program. Our girls performed tremendously today, working hard for each other and sticking to the game plan. They were disciplined and organized, and I'm very proud of them. They deserved this win."

The Lady Bears will return to action Sunday, September 28th when they host AAC foe Bluefield Rams at 1:00 pm on the TMC soccer field.
