Men’s Soccer earns first conference win against Milligan College

CLEVELAND, Ga., (TMSports) –The Truett-McConnell College Bears Soccer Team defeated conference opponent, Milligan College, in overtime, 2-1, Saturday, September 20.

The Buffaloes came out strong and scored their first goal within three minutes of the game. The Bears met Milligan's goal with a score of their own during the 25th minute when Josh Bargary came in as a substitute. Bargary knocked the ball into the goal off of his right foot and into the bottom left corner of the goal after Matthew Robertshaw played a long ball to Josiah Saydee. While the Bears struggled to create opportunities to score, they ended the first half with control and tied at 1-1.

The second half started as the first half ended with the Bears in control. Both teams had opportunities to score but the resilience of both Milligan and Truett-McConnell's goalkeeper kept the score tied at ones. Towards the end of the half, both teams battled fatigue from hard fought play refusing to concede with an opponent's goal. As the clock struck 00:00 the game was still tied and the Bears took the Buffaloes into overtime in the Den.

The Buffaloes kicked off overtime with possession but the Bears' Saydee quickly won the ball from the Buffalo right back; Saydee dribbled down the left side of the field and found teammate and co-captain Rudy Vasquez who calmly placed the ball into the far corner of the goal, across the keeper, giving the Bears a winning goal and a their first 2014 conference victory.

The Bears next home game will be Sunday, September 28. Kick-off will be at 3 p.m.
