Men's Soccer Falls to Brewton Parker 1-3
CLEVELAND, Ga. (TMSports ) - Truett-McConnell Men's Team hosted a well matched Brewton Parker Team which saw both sides battling for the win. TMC set out as they did against Johnson & Wales and allowed Brewton Parker to have most of the possession in hopes of catching them on the counter attack. The Bears back line, led by
Stephon Williams, stood strong for the first 25 minutes and no Brewton Parker attack seemed to cause any threat to the home side. However, a lack of concentration allowed the Barons to break the deadlock with a strike from 30 yards which caught goalkeeper,
Michael Forrester off guard at his front post. Head Coach Damien Westfield's men did not allow the score to bring their heads down and after a few consecutive attacks the home side drew level with the Barons 1-1. Freshman,
Daniel Ramirez broke up a Baron attack before his perfectly weighted through ball was met by the Bears forward,
Josiah Saydee, who composed himself as he rounded the keeper allowing him to tap the ball into an empty net. A tightly matched first half ended with the teams coming in with one goal apiece.
Â
The Bears were quickest out of the blocks as they attacked the clock end in the second half, and Saydee almost bagged his second goal of the day as
Houston Kent picked up a clearance from
James Serpas, who was at the heart of the Bears defense. Serpas played the ball into Saydee down the channel, where Saydee saw the Barons keeper closing in and went for a chip over the Baron's goalkeeper only to see the ball nestle on top of the net. Lack of concentration played its part again as the Barons launched an attack down the right hand side and the ball was crossed into the area but was blocked, by what looked like a hand. The cry for handball was turned down by the referee but the Bears defense stopped, instead of playing to the whistle, which allowed the Barons attacker to capitalize as they scored their second goal of the game on the 70th minute. The Barons scored the final goal of the game 15 minutes from time expired as a throw-in was taken quickly deep in the Bears half which resulted in the ball being crossed to the far post and the right wing of the Barons climbed above the Bears left back, to head the ball into the goal. The Bears tried to score a late goal and apply pressure to the Barons defense but they weren't able to convert.
Â
The Bears will play their first conference game of the season as they host Milligan College on Saturday, September 20
th.
