Lady Bears Get a Big Win Against Bob Jones University

Box Score

The Lady Bears brought an intensity to the court on Tuesday night that helped pave the way for a much needed victory against visiting Bob Jones University. The Bears shot 31.03% from the field in the first half, which was good enough to help them take a 24-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. After a few adjustments at the half, the Bears returned to the court and outscored the Bruins 34-24 in route to a 58-43 victory.

The Bears played impressive defense all night, holding the Bruins to a 29% shooting percentage from the field and limiting them to only 18% from beyond the three-point arch. The win helped snap an 8 game losing streak and improve the Bears' overall record to 2-10 for the season. The win also helped break a two game losing streak against the Bruins, who claimed victories in both meetings between the two schools last season. "This was a great team victory for us because we fought hard the entire game," said Head Coach Matt Sanders. "I'm so proud of our girls and I'm looking forward to finishing out the semester on a strong note."
Freshman guard, Anna Murr, and junior, Rhande Haskett, combined for the majority of the Bears scoring.  Murr led the way among all scorers with 22 points followed closely by Haskett with 19. Murr and senior forward, Natalie Johnson, paced the Bears' attack all night, each with a total of 32 minutes played. Veronika Brooks, Heather Shore, and Monica Hammond also had scoring contributions that helped propel the Bears to their second victory of the season.

The Lady Bears will look to continue their momentum against Hiwassee College at home on December 15th. The game will tip at 5:30 pm.
