Victory Slips Away in Overtime for Lady Bears

Box Score       The Lady Bears traveled to Columbia, South Carolina on Wednesday evening to take on the Columbia International Rams. The Bears came into the game riding a two game winning streak and took control in the opening minutes. The Bears shot 46.2% from the field and played strong defense to take a 28-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.
However, their success would be short lived as the Rams offense heated up in the second half. The Rams shot 42.3% from the floor and went 4-4 from beyond the arch to help tie the game up prior to overtime. In overtime, the Bears weren't able to match the intensity on the floor as they shot only 33.3% on 4-12 shooting. Meanwhile, the Rams went 4-7 and used their 57.9% shooting percentage to outscore the Bears 17-11 in the overtime period and claim the 74-68 victory. "[We] led the whole game up until the end, but it got away from us late," said Head Coach Matt Sanders. "Helen Simoes made a huge basket to put us ahead late, but we just weren't able to hang on."
