Cleveland, GA - On October 28, 2014, the Truett-McConnell women's volleyball team faced Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Tennessee Wesleyan in one of the last three regular season matches for the year. The Lady Bears proved victorious over their opponent, taking the game 3-1 in a tight nailbiter of a match.
After dropping the first set to the Bulldogs 21-25, the Lady Bears came back in the second set with a completely new offensive strategy. Not willing to drop another match at home, the Bears went on to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-21, and 25-21.
Freshman outside hitter
Hayley Haskell was one of the top contributors to the match. Haskell had a double-double in the match against the Bulldogs, posting 10 kills and 20 digs. Haskell went even further to post an astounding .417 hitting percentage, as well as scoring one ace against the Bulldogs.
Teammate
Hannah Simpson was another offensive weapon for the Lady Bears, posting 13 kills. Simpson currently ranks 6th in the AAC for kills with a season-total of 257, averaging 2.5 kills per set. Defensively, Simpson helped keep the Bears in the game as she racked up 16 digs.
The Bears played great defense against the Bulldogs offense, led by freshman libero
Keri King. King posted a total of 23 digs in the match, averaging 5.75 digs per set. King, a top-notch defensive player for the Lady Bears, currently ranks second in the conference for total digs with 497. She is ranked first in the AAC for digs per set, with an average of 5.5 a game. Not only are King's defensive abilities recognized by the ACC, but by the NAIA as well. King currently ranks 18th in the nation for digs per set, an astounding achievement for the freshmen libero.
The Lady Bears are currently 9-23 on the season, and 4-10 in AAC play. The Bears will play in their final home match this Tuesday, November 4th at 6:30 PM in The Bear Cave as they take on conference opponent Bryan College in the last match of the regular season.
