Cleveland, Ga. - The Truett-McConnell women's basketball team dropped their second Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest of the 2014-2015 season on Wednesday, Nov. 13 to the Bulldogs of Union College. Union walked away with a staggering 70-45 victory, moving the Lady Bears to 2-4 overall, and 0-2 in the AAC.
In the first half, the Lady Bears took an early lead on the Bulldogs, challenging their defense as the squad quickly put numbers on the board. A fast-paced and competitive half, both teams moved into halftime at 25-35, with Union leading by 10 points.
The Lady Bears tried to close the gap between them and the Bulldogs throughout the second half, but Union's pressing defense proved too powerful for the home team. The final 10 minutes of the game saw the Bulldogs continue to pull away with the lead, sealing their victory 25 points ahead of the Bears.
Despite their early lead in the first half, a relentless onslaught of missed shots left the Bears shooting just 38 percent from the floor, and 27 percent from three-point range. The offense also suffered by allowing 31 turnovers on the night, which in turn allowed the Bulldogs to score 34 points off those turnovers on the offensive end.
Again leading the Lady Bear offense was Rhande Haskett who posted 15 points over the Bulldogs. Natalie Johnson contributed 11 points, while Helen Simoes added 8 points and two steals. Monica Hammond led the squad in rebounds with eight, followed closely by Haskett and Johnson who recorded six apiece.
The Lady Bears are set to face Lee University on Monday, Nov. 17 as they travel to Cleveland, Tenn for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff. Only two days later, the squad then will play host to their next AAC opponent on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
