Men's Soccer Drops Road Game against St. Andrews

Laurinburg, N.C. - On Tuesday, October 21st, the Bears of Truett-McConnell men's soccer team travelled to North Carolina to play the Knights of St. Andrews University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup.

The Bears went in to the game full of confidence, starting the game very well. The men knew they had to be on their top game from the first whistle, as St. Andrews had proven to be one of their toughest AAC opponents.

For the majority of the first-half, the game was very evenly-matched between both teams. Only 18 minutes into the game, the Knights took the lead after the Bears gifted them with the first goal. Defensively, the Bears offered bad clearance of the ball, which led to the Knights first goal.

The Bears refused to be left behind as they challenged the Knights defense in the 24th minute. Josiah Saydee out-muscled the Knight defender and calmly slotted the ball in to the near post past the oncoming keeper, evening the score 1-1.

The joy did not last long for the Bears, because in the 25th minute the Knights took the lead again off another defensive mistake from the Bears. As the game moved into halftime, the score showed 2-1 with the Knights in the lead.

The second half did not go as planned for the Bears. The Knights of St. Andrews came out hard, attacking the Bears defense with a blistering pace right from the buzzer.

Throughout the second-half, the Bears faced tight pressure from the Knights, eventually conceding four more goals over the course of the second-half.  Although the Bears continued to fight back offensively, the Knights offense was too strong for the Bears defense as they  took full advantage of the pressure, scoring some extraordinary goals. As the clock ran to zero, the game finished with a final score of 6-1 to the Knights.

With this loss, the Bears move to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in AAC play. The men's soccer team returns to action at 5:15 PM on Saturday, October 25th when they visit Point University for their final AAC game. The Bears will then play in their final home game of the season at 3:30 PM on October 28th as they play host to Columbia International University.
