Bears Soccer goes 1-0 in conference play
CLEVELAND, Ga. (TMCSports) – Truett-McConnell College's men's soccer team won their first conference game against Union College, September 10.
The Bears met the Bulldogs in what was a very competitive and physical game, said student assistant coach, Ryan Danford. "We started out slow and gave up a goal within the first 30 seconds," he said.
The boys rallied together and closed out the first half with two goals to the Bulldog's one. Freshman Chris Austin hit a corner shot off of an assist by Jonathan Salgado and veteran, Penzi Kakoma, scored his first goal for the Bears.
A nerve wrecking half awaited the Bears in round two. The Bulldog's tied the game early in the match, and it wasn't until Lukas Storey utilized a blocked corner kick by Union's keeper, that the Bears once again took the lead, winning the game 3-1.
Danford complimented the entire team's efforts: "There weren't one or two standout players in the game," he said. "Our boys came together like a platoon of soldiers and worked for each other, made up for each other's mistakes and stuck it out until the end. We're proud of our boys for achieving their first conference victory on game one of conference play."
The Bears meet their second conference opponent, Virginia Intermont College, September 14. Their next home game is September 21. For schedule and ticket info, visit tmcbears.com.
