Cleveland, Ga. (TMSports) – Both Truett-McConnell College men's and women's soccer team tied with Reinhardt University, 0-0, in double overtime, October 16.

The Lady Bears entered the match up as the number three team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.  Eleven days since their last game, head coach David McDowell knew taking on the conference's number one team would be a challenge. "It was important for us to start strong against Reinhardt," McDowell said. "Once we got settled and focused on playing our game, I felt that the girls began to take control of the field."

With no score in the first half, both teams were determined to continue the fight into the second. A heavily defensive game, the girls battled into double overtime, resulting in a draw with zeros across the board. "Both teams had chances," McDowell said, "and I feel like a tie was a fair result."

Not once in the 110 minute game did the Lady Bears let up. "These girls play with a lot of heart and commitment, and games like yesterday's show why I believe we have the potential to go far this season," McDowell said.

Since the game with Reinhardt resulted in a tie, the Lady Bears have hopes in placing second in the conference.

The Truett-McConnell men's team also battled with Reinhart into double overtime, resulting in a 0-0 tie.

"It was a battle and both teams played with high intensity and passion," head coach Damien Westfield told TMSports. "The Truett-McConnell versus Reinhardt rivalry is always a close contest."

Tying with Reinhardt puts the men's team in a position to possibly host a playoff game for the post season which starts in November.

The men's team will host Georgia Gwinnett, October 19 at 4 PM., and Talladega College, October 23 at 3:30 PM. The Lady Bears host Georgia Gwinnett October 26 at 2 PM.
