2018 HOF Induction: 1980 women’s basketball team

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 31, 2018) – The 1980 Truett-McConnell College women's basketball team will be formally inducted into the Truett McConnell University Athletics Inaugural Hall of Fame Class on Friday, Nov. 9, during the Hall of Fame dinner and induction program.

The 1980 Danettes were coached by Colby Tilley, a 2018 HOF inductee, and defeated Cloud County Community College, of Concordia, Kansas, to win the NJCAA national championship by two points (63-61). The Danettes became the first school outside of Texas and Oklahoma to win the national title from Georgia since the national tournament began in 1976 posting an overall record of 36-2; still the best record in the history of Truett women's basketball.

The Danettes also set a school record winning 20 consecutive games in a season.

The 1980 team entered into the tournament No. 11 and were young featuring a squad of nine freshmen and one sophomore. The Danettes led their opponent in the first seven minutes of the second half by 15 points and Cloud County was never capable of fully recovering.

The Danettes were led by the 1980 national player of the year, Robin Hendrix, with 28 points and Martha Moss who was also named to the all-tournament team. Hendrix is also an inductee of TMU's inaugural class.
